Gunnar
Mettala - Park in the east central
region of Wixom is compromised of 65 acres, offering nature
study areas, playground, soccer field, softball diamond,
sand volleyball, basketball and tennis courts, a fitness
trail and a picnic pavilion.
Gilbert
Willis Park - covering 46
acres in the north-eastern section of Wixom,
features a rolling tree-lined terrain containing
softball diamonds, tennis courts, fitness and
nature study trails, and a picnic pavilion and
a children's tot-lot. This park also features
a gazebo
Mack
Park - is a downtown "mini-park" in
the center of the downtown district. This Victorian
park features a lighted gazebo with a sitting area. The
park contributes to the essence of the city's historical
past, "a crossroads community with character."
The
Wixom Habitat - is a 300
acre nature preserve purchased by the City. Located
at Wixom and Potter Roads and home to a variety
of fauna, flora and wildlife, this environmentally
sensitive area is protected from the loss of
wetlands occurring in other parts of the area. Phase
I has been completed with a grant from the DNR
and includes 800 feet of boardwalk and 2,685
feet of walking paths, a viewing platform at
East Gallagher Lake, and a paved parking lot
with 26 spaces connecting to the citywide bike
path. Future plans include an observation tower
and an interactive nature education center.
